Moving Day has come and gone

Hi everyone!

My apologies for the long absence.  With Steve gone, there has been a lot of things taking up my time, not mention I was without internet at the house until today.

Closing went off without a hitch!  Moving Day was November 20th. Everything went smoothly that day also. I'm so grateful to have had my parents here that weekend to help.

The last few weeks have been spent unpacking and trying to settle in. My brother and sister in law were able to come visit a couple of weekends ago, and they helped me with a few things while they were here. Most of the furniture was delivered today, that was very exciting! There are a couple of things that are on backorder, so they will be coming in a couple of weeks. It seems like now most everything is taken care of, with the exception of the fence.  The ball is rolling on that, and hopefully it will be in place within the next couple of weeks.

I promise pictures with the new furniture. I'm waiting to get more boxes unpacked and a little more settled in before that happens.  Stay tuned!

All done!

Hi friends!

Drum roll please..... the house is completed!  I had a "pre-walk through" with the builder on the 28th. At that time, the only things left to do were to lay the sod, finish the landscaping and do some final clean-up.  All of those tasks have since been completed. Woo hoo!

Look!  It's our mailbox! Tee hee!

The Great Room from the kitchen

Kitchen table light

Dining Room light. We LOVE the coffered ceilings in the dining room and great room!

Office

Our fireplace.  Its electric, but it generates heat too.
It's all "smoke and mirrors" as my builder put it.  Pretty nifty, if you ask me.

The front door. The french doors on the right open in to the office.
To the left is the dining room. In the fore-ground is the railing to the stairs.

The Master Suite!

Mater Bath
Master shower and throne room.
Ooooh, master spa tub, with a nice view of the backyard.

I can't wait to try it out!

Laundry

Kitchen!
Island with bar top, and double ovens!

Kitchen!
Smooth top stove with external hood ventilation.
(the globes on the island lights are actually red, even though it doesn't look like in this picture)

Ahhhh.  All landscaped and ready for move-in.  Isn't she beautiful?

After some more drama with the bank, we are now on schedule to close next Friday.  Here's hoping and praying that nothing else comes up between now and then.  I think I might seriously have acquired a few gray hairs from this experience with the bank. All in all though, it's been a lot of fun and very exciting.  Be sure to stay tuned for Moving Day!

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Or does it?

Hi Friends!

Yikes, it's been quite a while since an update has been posted.  My apologies. A lot has happened in our lives in the last few weeks. One of those things is, Steve has been sent out on a deployment. He left the US the last week in September.  Fortunately we discovered Skype, and were able to still talk on the phone and email every day until he was send under the sea. There has also been some drama with the new house (financial stuff), I won't bore everyone with the details, because it has all since been worked out. Attached are some recent pictures from the last few weeks. The last time I visited the house, the only new things were that the driveway and back patio had been poured.

The driveway has been poured since this picture was taken.

The screened-in porch is now screened in!

The front door is painted, the porch cement laid, and the steps built!

Our pretty front porch lighting.

This is the light fixture in the dining room.
I cheated and took the picture through the window.
Our kitchen.
This is another "through the window" picture.

Garage!

We really liked these fixtures for the garage.  They were on sale too!  Bonus!

It's been a busy 3 weeks since Steve left town. I'm making progress on packing up the house and getting ready to move.  I had a big help from my Mom, Dad, and Sister-in-law Jessi last weekend.  They all came in to town for the weekend and we had ourselves very productive packing and cleaning weekend. There is still packing to do, but most of what is left to be packed should wait until closer to Moving Day. Now, my projects are more about getting rid of "stuff we don't want, or need". On that note, anyone looking for a black leather couch and love seat set? Or a dining room table and chairs (round table, 4 chairs)?  Or a washer and dryer set? Or a dishwasher? Or random electrical/computer stuff? Let me know!

Again, sorry for the long absence.  I will be sure that doesn't happen again!

Ohh, the walls are painted!

Hi all!

Steve coordinated a visit with our builder for this morning, so we could check things out one more time before Steve leaves town.  We were delighted to find the painting had begun, the cabinetry has been installed, and the concrete has been poured in the garage and front porch.

As always, there are a few pictures to share.  The pictures of the darker painted rooms didn't show up well. I'll have to try to take those pictures again at a later time.

Isn't she pretty in the morning light?
Notice, the columns on the front porch are in place.

The stairs are so pretty!

The kitchen and the cabinetry

Pretty stained built-in bookcases!
That is Temperate Taupe on the walls.

After visiting the house, we went to an appointment this morning to finalize our lighting choices. Then we decided to go on a shopping spree!!  :-)  We purchased our living room and dining room furniture, kitchen table and chairs, and a couple of other accent chairs.  Whew!  There are still a few pieces we're looking for, but they are all non-essential things that can wait for a while.

That is all for now!

The doors are in, the doorknobs in place, and... locked?!?

Happy Sunday everyone!

Steve and I made our weekly trip out to the house Friday night.  We were surprised and disappointed to find the house was all locked up.  We peered in the windows, but it just wasn't the same  :-(  Looks like the kitchen cabinets and island are in, and the coffered ceiling was installed in the Great Room.  There will also be a coffered ceiling in the Dining Room, but we couldn't tell if that was in place yet.  More progress has been made on the outside as well with additional siding in place and more of the window shutters installed.

Just for kicks, I've put up some of our furniture selections, as well as some of our "possible" furniture selections.
We both like these accent chairs,
but are undecided on where they would fit best.

This will be going in our Great Room, most likely.

"Possible" accent chair.

Another "possible" accent chair.

This might become our kitchen table. That's right folks, its triangular!
Steve has been spending a lot of time researching furniture and equipment for the theater room.  It feels like we're coming to some decisions on that as well.  It seems like we still have a good amount of time before this is all wrapped up, but at the same time I feel like we need to get cracking on packing and cleaning our current residence.  Moving day will be here before we know it!

Things are moving along!

I needed to call our builder to talk to him about a few small things, and he gave me a little update that I thought I'd pass along.  On the inside, the kitchen cabinets are installed!  I can't wait to get out there this weekend to take more pictures. He also said the paint should be going up in the next couple of weeks.  The rest of the exterior is getting finished up with the siding and shutters, and the plan is to pour the concrete for the garage in the next week or so.

I also spoke with our kitchen appliance company today.  They  need us to pay our bill with them so that they can deliver the appliances, which means... the kitchen appliances will be getting installed pretty soon!  My guess is in the next couple of weeks.  Woo hoo!

No pictures today, but it's almost the weekend! More than likely we'll be visiting the house again Saturday or Sunday.  Stay tuned!

The progress continues...

Greetings!

Steve and I had an appointment with our lighting consultant at Southern Lighting on Saturday to decide ALL of our lighting fixtures for the house.  Inside, and out.  All of them.  OK, ok, so it wasn't as tedious as I'm making it sound. It only took a couple of hours, and our consultant was a lot of help.  To be honest, both Steve and I initially felt overwhelmed by the showroom at first, but our consultant was great about helping us coordinate fixtures that would compliment our wall colors and bathroom fixtures, as well as thinking of the flow of lighting fixtures from room to room.

We also went out furniture browsing (again!) on Saturday after our appointment at Southern Lighting. I'm 99.9% sure we've found our Great Room seating, and our Dining Room set, which is very, very exciting. We also found a kitchen table set that we both like. We continue to look for office furniture, accent chairs, and bookcases for the rest of the house. Steve is surprising me with his taste in accent furniture :-)  There is a set of zebra print chairs he really likes, that may just find their way in to the office.  Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of them, but I do have this one:
Thoughts?

As always, more pictures!  These are from Saturday, 11 September.

The vinyl siding is up!
Shutters!
They were only on two of the windows so far, but hey, it was great to see them up!
Garage
Kitchen.
Looks like all the drywall is up, seams mudded (or whatever that stuff is), and the texture is on the ceiling.
Great room.
Master bedroom
Master bedroom.
Steve and I both agree that every time we step in to that sitting area, it surprises us at how spacious it is.
We had a visitor :-)
This is the view from the master bedroom sitting area window.

As the house is coming together, we are both finding that we love our choices more and more.  For example, once the brick went up, we loved our brick choice even more. Now that the vinyl siding and shutters are going up, we are loving our color choices even more. I know we have a few more months to go, but I just can't wait to see the rest of it come together!

The walls are up! The walls are up!

Last weekend we couldn't help ourselves, and ended up going back to the house on Sunday, even though we had just been there on Friday. We discovered the whole house had the sheet rock up.  That was really special, to walk through the house with the walls up and the rooms really defined.

I LOVE the big window by the tub so I can enjoy our forest while I relax  in warm bubbly water.

Yeah, I know these pictures are a solid week old already. Oh well! Enjoy!
